Our dear City
Islamabad is the capital city of the country. Established in late 60s, for decades it was considered a “dead city” socially and commercially, with everything coming from Lahore and everybody going to Lahore on weekends, leaving the city deserted so much so that US ambassador to Pakistan in early 80s, Dean R Hinton, once commented “ Islamabad is half the size of New York cemetery but twice as dead”.
People till about late 80s had trouble buying proper variety of groceries what to talk of finding furniture store in Islamabad for which people would travel to Saddar, Rawalpindi Cant, some 30 kilometers away for good quality. There were some furniture stores available in Peshawar More, Karachi Company or Faizabad for medium/low quality furniture.
Buying used furniture from embassies was one thriving business at that time whose remnants/furniture stores can be seen to this day in a place called China market in F-6/3 Sector of the city.
Since 90s, however, Islamabad has changed and it has changed way too much, almost becoming a mini metropolis, adding not only furniture and home decor stores but shopping, eating, socializing choices of quality and variety with all the adverse effects that come with a rapid population and construction expansion on traffic, crime, prices, environment etc.
Furniture Stores history in Islamabad
From such humble beginning of the furniture stores in Islamabad, one is really amazed at the situation today. Casa Bela was one of the first names of a high quality, high priced, genuine Islamabad furniture store, offering a mix of imported and local furniture. Interwood, NM, Marina and so many other furniture stores joined in and the list of furniture stores in Islamabad keeps on growing.
Faizabad, Sector I-9, Sector G-8 etc. now offer complete markets of furniture stores in Islamabad besides Saddar and GT Road Rawalpindi. There have always been some handicraft like furniture stores in Super market Islamabad which mainly sold a small number of handmade, hand carved furniture in typical Gujarat and Chiniot designs, mainly aimed at foreigners and tourists at very high prices.
Beginning of Pak Turk Furniture in Islamabad
Back in the year 2007, one Mr AbdulGhafoor Khudaybirdi came from Turkey with a furniture business background of more than 30 years in London, saw traditional Pakistani furniture designs in Kashmir, chiniot and North Pakistan and impressed by their beauty, mixed them with Turkish and Central Asian traditional designs and thus started, now famous Pak Turk furniture, primarily to serve diplomatic, foreigner community in Islamabad. According to him, he had no idea that this furniture would become so popular with locals as well.
The Distinguishing Features of Pak Turk Furniture
So what is special about this furniture by Pak Turk- Pak Centralasian Furniture that is not there in other furniture stores in Islamabad. Foremost distinguishing feature is that this furniture is made of real wood, primarily sheesham (Rose wood) and Pine wood.
It may not be easy to understand the difference that this factor alone can make. The second distinguishing feature is its price which is much below what is charged by other furniture shops in Islamabad. Although there is an overall taxation of about 25% on furniture stores, keeping reasonable profit margins in an industry that is used to to 100% margins is what has made such reasonable prices possible.
The next distinguishing feature is the customer sale policies of Pak Turk Pak central Asian Furniture stores. A customer can use an item for 5, 10, 20 years and just return it or exchange it for another item without even a purchase receipt. He can get his/her money back after deduction of taxes that had been already paid on his purchase whereas he/she gets full value of her item while exchanging it with another item.
These furniture items have a life time guaruntee meaning that incase of termite or any wood defect other then what’s normal and natural to real wood, Pak Turk Furniture will provide free maintenance or simply replace or take the item back.
Our uniqueness
Off course we claim to be a different if not a unique source of this furniture as both our designs and handmade work is our own. Our furniture is handmade, hand painted, carved and natural oil polished. Most of Pak Turk Furniture is initially made by craftsmen at their home and finished at our own factories.
Such a scheme of production makes us economical as well as socially responsible as most of the finer element of this work are performed by women folk at their rural homes, providing them with employment opportunity which they will otherwise not have. Our factories on the other hand have the latest machines including CNC thus giving us the ability to produce good final product.
Last but not the least, Pak Turk furniture besides its two outlets is also an online store that has presence on almost all social media platforms. Customer has the facility to see our products in the comfort of their home and families can mutually decide and connect to us digitally 24/7.
